Today was just one of those days where we were sitting in the car for most of the day, not even realizing it.
Before 10am, Melissa and I had gone back and forth between our house, the new house, and the calving barn way too many times to count. We fed our calves, who were very hungry since they didn't have much last night, and then came back again to feed Nora.
Tony is looking a lot better and his legs are definitely starting to straighten out. He's even discovered that he can move faster than a walk and that he can almost buck and rear. He's also become very curious about everything. Today he nibbled on my t-shirt and demanded that he be rubbed and iched all over.
Melissa and I thoroughly cleaned out the calving barn since Nora and Tony are in there. We mucked it out and made sure everything was nice and neat (as much as it can be of course, for it always gets dirty again). Then we cleaned out the back of the trailer we are taking tomorrow to go to the Buck Brannaman Clinic in Rapid City, SD. Jenn is going to be in one of the classes, so we are taking Dino and staying for four nights and five days. We then put down new shavings. Melissa and Jenn loaded hay onto the top of the trailer while I vacuumed and mopped out where we are staying. It's pretty much a small camper in the front and nose of a horse trailer. And it's actually pretty nice and cozy.
After that we had lunch at Jenn and Zach's new house. It was just some turkey sandwiches, but I found out that I really like siracha mayo. It has a nice kick that really adds to the flavor and is much different than just plain mayo.
Melissa and I fed our calves again after lunch and then had a bit of downtime before Jenn came to our house to pack more stuff up. We got some more kitchen pots and pans out of there as well as glasses and plates. Somehow we did manage to forget the bowls though.
After that we went and played with Tony and gave Ace (one of the calves) a banamine shot for his swollen leg. He seems to be getting better with it, but he isn't walking on it so we gave him the shot to maybe help with that. Tony was basking in the sunlight as Jenn iched him all over. He really enjoyed that quite a bit.
After that, Melissa and I had some more downtime and we watched a few episodes of Longmire. By the time seven rolled around, we were feeding our calves again and heading to Jenn's for dinner. She made short back ribs, scalloped cheesy potatoes, and cheesy green beans. It was absolutely delicious (as always of course).
After feeding Nora again, Melissa and I are back at our house and exhausted from a not so eventful day, but it was all in preparation for an exciting and relaxing weekend to come! The number of times we drove back and forth between houses and barns was more than enough times one could have done in a day. But it's just another amazing ranch experience in the life of The DX Ranch.
The next few days may be a little spotty with updates. I'm not sure if I will have any internet while I am there, but I will try to post updates on my phone since I will have service. So adieu for now my friends, and hopefully I can get some updates in with what I'm doing and learning this weekend.
