Today was a very relaxing day here on the ranch. We got to sleep in a little bit, did our chores, and then headed to Granny's for breakfast where Zach made us eggs, bacon, and toast. As we ate breakfast, we watched The Lego Movie because it was on TV. I wasn't too impressed with it though.
After that we headed down to the barn where Melissa and I worked with the colts. I worked with Winston again, doing everything I did yesterday. I added in the rope this time, rubbing it up and down his body and slightly tapping it against him ever so slightly. He wasn't too sure at first, but he was just fine with it by the end. Melissa and I then got some brushes out and gave all the colts a good brushing. Some weren't sure at first, but by the time we were done, they were following us around wanting more.
Then Melissa and I went upstairs to the house in the barn and watched Buck Brannaman's Snaffle Bit video. It recapped everything Jenn and Zach have taught me over the last four weeks with some more information about loping.
After that we headed to Granny's for lunch and chilled out for a little bit. We then put them all out in one of the pastures with Gump where they will be for the next year or so. Since they're yearlings, we only wanted to get them halter broken so we could catch them if we needed to before they get started for riding. We then headed back to Granny's to watch The Belmont Stakes horse race.
I must say, I've never really been a fan of horse racing, but the Triple Crown consisting of the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes has always been neat for me. I've always admired and loved the horses that have become Triple Crown Winners (Secretariat, War Admiral, and Affirmed to say a few) and my whole life I've been wishing for another to join the list. American Pharoah fullfilled that dream for me today and the excitement still hasn't worn off. I shed a few tears when he crossed that finish line, five and a half lengths ahead of the others and two seconds slower than Secretariat's record. He's made history now and I'm so thankful I got to share that moment with a bunch of horse enthusiasts all shouting at the television.
Once the magical race was over, we headed to put panels up since we need to work some cows tomorrow. This means getting them vaccinated and such before they turn the bulls out to pasture after branding. After we were done with that, we headed to Bob's Steakhouse for dinner.
