This morning we welcomed Nuclear Iron Man, aka Tony, to the ranch. He's by WDX Nukem out of Streakin Iron (Iron Bird). I was making bottles for calves when I looked out the window and there he was. He's super wobbly and as Jenn says, "he was overcooked." He's got a dun coloring to him, but Jenn seems to think he will turn grey like his momma, as do I. He definitely was the brightest part of the gloomy day here in South Dakota.
After seeing the little guy and his very wobbly legs, I finished up my morning chores by feeding the calves. The third calf still would not drink out of a bottle so after lunch we brought in a cow who had lost her calf in the pasture.
Today was a pretty mellow day for the most part. I spent the morning watching the movie Buck and helped Jenn pack some more of the house up. After we brought the cow in, Burt and I went out to get the saddle horses in. Along the way, we were chasing Gumpy at about 25-30mph in the Ranger when we hit a rather large ditch in the middle of the brush. Since we weren't wearing seatbelts, which of course is always a good thing to do, my head spacked against the windshield. Of course I'm fine, besides a slight headache and a small bump on my forehead, but it left a huge crack in the windshield....
After that lovely experience, Jenn and I fed two of the horses, Gumpy and Dino, as they need more supplements now. Dino then got a shot of penicilin to help with his coughing that he has picked up recently.
After that was pretty mellow as well. I fed the calves again and Jenn went to her office to do some work on her photography. I watched Buck's First Ride video as I ate dinner.
Tomorrow we're hoping to get more replacement moms in for our calves so hopefully it won't be too rainy or muddy to do that.
Off to bed now!
