Today was a very long day it seemed. Chores were done by 8:30am, which consist of giving water to the pregnant mares, giving water to the chickens, collecting eggs, and feeding the calves. All went very smoothly today.
After that we enlisted Bud and Burt to help us move furniture to the new house. First they moved the new refrigerator into the house. This was a heafty task due to the fact that it needed to be on the second floor, since the whole house is raised up. After that was successfully completed, we ate lunch at Granny's as usual and had philly cheesesteak hamburger helper. It was quite delicious.
After lunch, we continued to move furniture. Bud and Burt loaded the rest of the furniture on a flat bed trailer and unloaded it into the new house. After unpacking some more boxes, we then headed out to get some saddle horses. We picked out Dino and Chachie to ride.
I learned a lot in the two hours that we rode around the arena. It was a great intro to the feel method that they teach. I mostly spent the time getting to know Chachie and getting him to respond to my commands with a more gentle system. We worked on one rein stops in the halter and getting him to move out when I asked.
Once back at the house, we put a casserole in the oven and went to go feed the calves. Burt had brought in another from the pasture that was a twin and so her mother cast her off. We tried to get her to bottle feed, but it will have to be worked on more in thr morning.
Once we were back and dinner was ready, (chicken, broccoli, rice, mushroom, and cheese casserole) I started on of Buck Brannaman's videos. It was on ground work, getting a colt ready to ride by using various methods of "feel".
Now it's off to bed for another fun filled day tomorrow.
